REGRET

Regret spreads its tender tentacles It brushes against my skin First in the guise of nostalgia Then it winds itself around my veins And tightens its grip Roads not taken Words unsaid Unanswered letters Distant lands Flying kisses All that could have been I go down on my knees And lap up the spilled milk The few drops that wet my tongue Taste of dirt, dust and the Earth Regret I wallow in this wasted emotion Tonight I let it drag me down I drown in its depths
