Say NO to Drugs Through Creativity

It is about the drug crisis which has taken Kerala by despair shock and grief.

Lets go for the crucial solution for this endemic desease plaguing the children and youth.

There are lots of voluntary units and government agencies working to tackle the symptoms, but hardly anything is being done to address the root (cause). There is also nothing gained in focusing only on the negatives and the disastrous consequences.

It is said that an abundant mindset is the fundamental attractor of opportunities and growth, according to The law of attraction. “What you repeat you create”. Modern neuroscience has unequivocally established that ‘visualize, practice, repeat’ is the mantra of law of attraction.

Our youth need to be constantly fed with not just the negative effects of drugs, but more importantly with a set of higher level thoughts that can help build a bright future. It shall also not be just about personal glories, but about the collective growth of communities, regions, and the nation. We need the youngsters to get inspired by what really would catalyze an economic growth to help India rise the levels, not just to number three, but to number one, and that too keeping in tact our core value systems.

Let our youth get excited about ideating to solve local problems. It could start from redesigning the chair, bench, and table they use at school to make it more convenient as per their dreams, to how best they can tackle the garbage segregation and collection at home. They could think of designing and implementing a micro-vegetable farming scheme for their local communities and how best to optimise the supply chain associated with that to set up an equitable distribution system. Can they not work to come up with a small town planning proposal (or for a small part of a large city they live in etc.) that streamlines the traffic, parking, and public transport system, by combing best practices and also fine-tuning that with original ideas that support local needs.

They must start small, and then see it materialize before their eyes in real (implementation) or at least as a project proposal that goes higher up through elder support. They must ‘own’ such ideas and implementation. We (elders) must take initiatives to give wide publicity for these thought-based activities of the youth. The ideas must be recognised and encouraged.

Such engagement in innovative ideation geared towards ‘real’ solutions and their ownership can help give our youth a “direction”.

(These are just a few thoughts, not necessarily fully explained or elaborated, but simple seeds that I have personally experimented with children and youth, and seen tremendous gains in motivations. There are some schools that do engage in such activities, but hardly 1% of our children get that exposure. BUT these are things that can be taken up at all levels of society. We need more and more of our children to get such exposure. It is said children grow into the thought-space provided by the elders!
